Hey! My name is Elise Harris. I started ceramics about 7 months ago and quickly fell in love with working with clay. Before that I spent most of my life painting and doing different kinds of art, but once I started ceramics I realized how much I loved the hands-on process of creating something from scratch. I started by taking a few classes where I learned the basics of throwing on the wheel and understanding how clay works. After a few weeks I became so interested in the process that I decided to invest in my own equipment and build a small pottery studio so I could continue learning and creating more pieces.

My Process

Most of my pieces begin on the pottery wheel where I shape the clay into forms like mugs, cups, or plates. Once the clay dries to a leather-hard stage, I trim the piece and sometimes add carved designs or small details. After it dries completely, the piece goes through a bisque firing, then I glaze it and fire it again in the kiln to create the final colors and finish.

What Inspires Me

I’m inspired by simple shapes, handmade textures, and small details that make each piece unique. I enjoy creating pottery that is both functional and personal, like mugs or cups that people can use every day. I also love experimenting with glaze combinations to see how the colors change and develop during the firing process.

Looking Ahead

As I continue learning ceramics, I’m excited to keep experimenting with new techniques, glaze combinations, and forms. My goal is to keep growing creatively and share more of my pottery and creative journey with others.
